Saint Luke President Visits South Africa
Saint Luke president, Capuchin Father David Songy, visited South Africa in late April 2016. Saint Luke Institute has had a presence there for several years, with Father Hugh Lagan, SMA, a psychologist and member of Saint Luke’s clinical team providing education and consultation with the Catholic Church in that country.
During his two-week visit, Fr. Songy gave a week-long presentation to the Southern African Catholic Bishops Conference sabbatical program, participated in meetings and spoke at an April 20 gathering of clergy, religious and lay Catholics in Port Elizabeth on the meaning and theology of the Year of Mercy.
Fr. Songy was commissioned a Missionary of Mercy by Pope Francis at the start of Lent. As part of his role, he has been giving workshops and participating in Year of Mercy events.
