First SLIconnect Webinar of 2025 Highlights Pastoral Accompaniment of Young People

Covid didn’t cause the rise in “nones” and “dones” resulting in declining Church affiliation, but it certainly sped up the process. And the pandemic is not over for young people. The mental health crisis among young people is well documented and now pastoral leaders are challenged to focus on a ministry response. In the first webinar of 2025 on our online learning platform, SLIconnect.org, guest presenter Bob McCarty, D.Min., identified the underlying mental health challenges and the dynamics that lead to disaffiliation, described the factors that reinforce those dynamics, and examined the implications for parish life and pastoral ministry. Participants heard about these issues from young adults, in their own words and voices, and pastoral strategies were proposed that enhance affiliation and engagement with the faith community.
