Statement from Saint Luke Institute on Monsignor Stephen Rossetti

Posted on: June 4, 2026

A statement from the Saint Luke Institute Board of Directors and President & CEO Rev. Patrick J. McDevitt, C.M., Ph.D.:

On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the Archdiocese of Washington released a statement regarding the removal of Monsignor Stephen Rossetti as an exorcist for the Archdiocese, and the termination of its affiliation with the Monsignor’s nonprofit, the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal.

Monsignor Rossetti was the President & CEO of Saint Luke Institute (SLI) from 1996 to 2009, and again from 2013 to 2014. The Monsignor currently has no clinical, therapeutic, spiritual, operational, consultative or leadership role with SLI. Similarly, SLI has no relationship with, or connection to the St. Michael Center for Spiritual Renewal.

In the years since 2014, Monsignor Rossetti has made personal financial contributions to SLI in support of its mission. These donations were made as a private individual and handled in accordance with SLI’s status as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.

Up until 2021, Monsignor Rossetti produced content for SLI’s online learning platform, SLIconnect.org. While these materials do not relate to the issues germane to his removal, as an Institute that conducts its healing ministry in harmony with the teachings of the Catholic Church, SLI will remove this content from SLIconnect.org as of Monday, June 8, 2026.

Saint Luke Institute maintains a strong relationship with the Archdiocese of Washington. The Board of Directors and staff of SLI are united in prayerful support of His Eminence Robert Cardinal McElroy and the necessary determinations that were made to end the Archdiocese’s relationship with Monsignor Rossetti and the St. Michael Center.
