Archbishop Mitchell Rozanski to Serve as Bishop-Advisor to Saint Luke Institute

Posted on: October 9, 2025

Rev. Patrick J. McDevitt, CM, Ph.D., President & CEO of Saint Luke Institute (SLI), has announced that The Most Rev. Mitchell T. Rozanski, Archbishop of St. Louis, has accepted a role as the organization’s bishop-advisor. This role, also referred to as an episcopal moderator, will build on SLI’s strong connection with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), as well as with individual bishops across the country and beyond. Archbishop Rozanski’s role as bishop-advisor began on September 5, 2025.

Saint Luke Institute is an independent, international Catholic mental health treatment and education center for priests, deacons, religious women and men, and other ministers and leaders in the Church. Over its nearly fifty-year history, SLI has served the needs of dozens of arch/dioceses and religious communities of women and men in support of the mental health and spiritual wellness of thousands of priests, deacons, sisters and brothers.

“It is a blessing to have the engagement and support of Archbishop Rozanski in this crucial role for SLI,” said Fr. McDevitt. “He brings a deep care and love for the Church and for the clergy and religious who serve the Church. As SLI looks to its next fifty years, the SLI Board and staff are thrilled to welcome Archbishop Rozanski to this important advisor role,” McDevitt added.

As SLI’s bishop-advisor, Archbishop Rozanski will be able to provide support to the organization in practical terms as the leader of one of the nation’s most historic archdioceses, and through his formal and informal work within the USCCB. “Christ, the Great Physician, commissioned His apostles to carry on His ministry, including the ministry of healing His people, body, mind and spirit,” said Archbishop Rozanski. “It is a great joy and privilege to play a small role in SLI’s mission of caring for those who have dedicated their own lives to caring for the faithful,” he continued.

Rozanski also brings to SLI deep roots near its Silver Spring and Greater Baltimore, Maryland locations. Born in Baltimore on Aug. 6, 1958, his family lived in Fells Point and later Dundalk, Maryland. His family participated in the life of local parishes, and he attended Catholic elementary schools in the area. After graduating from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School in Essex, Maryland, he received his undergraduate degree from The Catholic University of America before entering Theological College, also at Catholic University, where he received seminary training. He was ordained a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 1984. He served for 20 years in several parishes in the archdiocese until 2004, when Saint Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, becoming, at that time, the youngest bishop in the United States.

Pope Francis later appointed him as Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield, Massachusetts in 2014, and then, in 2020 the Holy Father appointed him the 10th Archbishop of St. Louis.

Archbishop Rozanski currently serves on the board of Cross Catholic Outreach and is the Roman Catholic co-chair of the Polish National Catholic/Roman Catholic Dialogue, a position he’s held since November 2017. He serves on the Advisory Council of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and the USCCB subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs and the National Catholic Partnership on Disability. He has previously served on multiple USCCB committees, is a member of the Knights of Columbus, a Knight Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, Northeast Lieutenancy, and also serves as episcopal moderator of the National Association of Holy Name Societies.
