Board Evolution Reflects Strategic Vision as Saint Luke Institute Approaches 50th Anniversary

Posted on: January 28, 2026

As Saint Luke Institute (SLI) prepares to celebrate five decades of serving the mental health and spiritual care needs of clergy, religious sisters and brothers, deacons, and others who serve the Church, its Board of Directors is growing to meet the opportunities and challenges ahead. At its meeting on January 27, 2026, the SLI Board elected a new chair, recognized its departing chair, and welcomed four new members to serve, with five members continuing their terms. They also thanked three members concluding their terms of service.

The SLI Board elected as their new Chair, Sr. Salvatrice Murphy, DC, LCSW. Sr. Murphy is a Daughter of Charity, a society of apostolic life established by Sts. Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac to be of service to those on the margins of society. She is also a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience in the areas of family systems, trauma, parish-based services, and organizational wellness. She has served as a board member for SLI since 2023, and she is the first sister to serve in the role of Board Chair. “I consider it a great honor to serve with these dedicated clinical and pastoral leaders on the SLI Board,” Sr. Murphy said. “I look forward to working with new and returning colleagues in support of SLI’s mission of healing and fostering healthy ministers in our Church.”

Rev. Patrick J. McDevitt, CM, PhD, President & CEO of SLI, and ex officio member of the Board, welcomed Sr. Murphy’s leadership: “In a time of strategic growth for SLI, Sr. Salvatrice’s significant background at the intersection of social work and ministry is a gracious gift to us,” he said. “Further, her witness as a Daughter of Charity and her dedication to social work keeps before us the mental health needs of sisters, at a time when stigma about such needs in the Church overall remains an obstacle to many receiving the care they need.”

Sr. Murphy succeeds outgoing Board Chair, Christine Gill, Esq., who served in that role from 2024 to 2026 – the first lay woman in the role. Mrs. Gill, a 15-year board member, who also previously served as Vice Chair and chair of various committees, was recognized in a special way. In thanking her for her years of service, Fr. McDevitt spoke of her “transformative leadership,” who, through deep personal and professional commitment, helped sustain the mission of SLI in its care for clergy and religious in mental health need.

In addition to Mrs. Gill, Rear Admiral James B. Hinkle (3 years) and Jeremiah Norton (9 years) concluded their terms on the board and were also honored.

Besides Sr. Murphy, members whose terms are continuing are:

  • Terrence O’Donnell, Esq., KM, Senior Counsel at the law firm of Williams & Connolly LLP, U.S. Air Force veteran, former Special Assistant to two U.S. Presidents and former General Counsel of the Department of Defense, marking a decade of service on the SLI Board, and continuing to serve as Board Vice Chair since 2024.
  • Elizabeth Lane Brown, RN, retired from Sibley Memorial Hospital, Washington, DC, where she served as a Charge Nurse for 40 years, and current active member and former board member of the John Carroll Society of Washington, continuing her SLI board service from 2018.
  • Sheila Harron, PhD, a retired clinical psychologist, continuing her long-standing service to the SLI Board, and who previously served as the Chief Operations Officer, and as a therapist, at SLI.
  • Richard D. Milone, MD, KM, certified psychiatrist, marking his 13th year on the SLI Board, after 44 years as Medical Director of St. Vincent’s Psychiatric Hospital in New York State.

The new board members elected at the January meeting are:

  • Most Rev. Mitchell T. Rozanski, the Archbishop of St. Louis since 2020 and previous Bishop of Springfield, Massachusetts. Archbishop Rozanski also serves as episcopal advisor to SLI.
  • Patrick M. Carrion, MAS, STM, a priest of 43 years for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, Maryland, current adjunct professor at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, and former Director of the Division of Clergy Personnel for the Archdiocese.
  • F. Javier Orozco, PhD, the Executive Director of Human Dignity and Intercultural Affairs for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, where he also serves as the Ecumenical and Interreligious Officer.
  • Katie Pesha, MBA, the President/Founder of KP Consulting Group, a network of strategic consultants for Catholic organizations, and prior Vice President of Strategic Communications for the Catholic Leadership Institute.

Fr. McDevitt thanked the continuing and new board members joyfully: “We are excited to welcome these experienced leaders who will strengthen SLI’s capacity to grow strategically and with impact as we mark 50 years of service. Their arrival reflects SLI’s organizational commitment to its next chapter of service and impact in fostering healthy ministers for a vibrant Church and a healed world.

“At the same time,” he continued, “we are equally grateful for those who are continuing their work and leadership on our Board, enabling continuity with past successes as we move forward.”

He further noted that this thoughtful transition brings fresh perspectives and specialized expertise while building on the strong foundation established by SLI’s continuing and alumni board members: “As we look toward our 50th anniversary and beyond, we do so with confidence in this leadership and with gratitude for all who have brought us to this moment.”
